About This Station

**VOWR 800 AM** is a historic, all-volunteer radio station based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, and is recognized as the province's pioneer broadcaster. First airing on July 20, 1924, as 8WMC, it was founded by Rev. Dr. Joseph G. Joyce as an outreach ministry of Wesley United Church, a mission it continues today with a wide array of Christian programming. Over the years, its role has expanded to include a rich musical mix of easy listening, pop, country, classical, Celtic, and folk, with a strong emphasis on local Newfoundland and Labrador performers.
